- 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 3 cups marinara sauce
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
Cook Pasta: Boil shells in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Prepare Meat Sauce: Brown ground beef/sausage with onion and garlic in skillet. Drain fat. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer 10 minutes.
Make Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine ricotta, cream cheese, Parmesan, egg, and Italian seasoning. Mix until smooth.
Assemble Casserole: In greased 9x13 dish, layer half the meat sauce, pasta mixed with cheese blend, then remaining sauce. Top with mozzarella.
Bake: Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake 10–15 minutes more until golden and bubbly.
