Instructions
Season the steak strips with salt and pepper.
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the steak to the hot skillet and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned to your preference. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside. Leave any residual fat in the pan.
Add the sliced onions to the skillet and cook in the steak drippings over medium heat until soft and lightly browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet.
Lightly toast or grill the bread slices. Spread mayonnaise or butter on one side of each slice.
Place the cooked steak strips and onions onto two slices of bread. Top with the remaining bread slices to complete the sandwiches.
Notes
You can add cheese to the sandwich while the steak is still hot if you prefer a cheesesteak variation.
