Equipment

  • Heavy skillet or cast iron pan
  • Tongs
  • Whisk
  • Cutting board and knife

Ingredients

Steak:

  • 2 ribeye or strip steaks (about 8 oz each)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Bourbon Garlic Cream Sauce:

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup bourbon
  • ½ cup beef stock or pan drippings
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme or parsley (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare Steak: Pat steaks dry. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  • Sear Steak: Heat skillet over high heat. Add olive oil. Sear steaks 3–4 minutes per side until caramelized. Remove and rest.
  • Deglaze Pan: Lower heat. Add garlic, sauté briefly. Pour in bourbon, scraping up browned bits.
  • Build Sauce: Stir in beef stock. Reduce slightly. Add cream and butter, whisking until smooth. Simmer until thickened.
  • Finish: Return steaks briefly to pan to coat with sauce.
  • Serve: Plate steaks, spoon sauce generously over top, and garnish with herbs.

Notes

  • Steak Cuts: Ribeye for richness, strip for balance, filet for tenderness.
  • Bourbon Substitution: Whiskey or brandy can be used if preferred.
  • Safety Tip: If flambéing bourbon, use caution and keep a lid nearby.
  • Make Ahead: Sauce can be prepared separately and reheated gently.
  • Serving Idea: Pair with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
