Ingredients
  

  • 6 cups apple cider (fresh-pressed or store-bought)
  • 2–3 cinnamon sticks
  • 4–6 whole cloves
  • 2–3 star anise pods
  • 1–2 tsp whole allspice (optional)
  • 1–2 slices fresh ginger
  • 2–4 tbsp brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey (to taste)
  • Optional: orange zest, vanilla bean, or nutmeg
  • Optional adult version: ½ cup bourbon, spiced rum, or brandy
  • Optional visual effects: red fruit syrup, lychee “eyeballs,” or small dry ice pieces

Instructions
 

  • Pour apple cider into a large saucepan or slow cooker.
  • Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, ginger, and optional spices.
  • Stir in sweetener (brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey).
  • Gently simmer over low heat for 20–30 minutes to infuse flavors. Do not boil.
  • Remove from heat and strain out spices using a fine mesh strainer.
  • Optional: add red syrup for “poison” effect or float lychee “eyeballs.”
  • Serve warm in mugs, jars, or mini cauldrons.
  • Adult version: stir in bourbon or spiced rum just before serving.
  • For dramatic effect: drizzle syrup at the table or use dry ice safely.
