Equipment

  • Hand frother or whisk
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Sifter (for matcha)
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Spoon (for layering)
  • Tall glass or serving cup

Ingredients

For the Matcha Layer:

  • 1 tsp ceremonial-grade matcha powder (or high-quality culinary)
  • 2 tbsp hot water (not boiling)
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • 1 drop vanilla extract (optional)

For the Coconut Cloud:

  • ½ cup full-fat coconut cream (chilled overnight)
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or sweetener of choice
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Optional Add-Ins:

  • ½ scoop collagen peptides or protein powder
  • Dash of cinnamon or cardamom
  • Ice – for iced version
  • Toppings: toasted coconut, matcha powder, edible flowers

Instructions

Prepare the Matcha Base

  • Sift matcha into a small bowl.
  • Add hot water and whisk vigorously in a zig-zag motion until smooth and frothy.
  • Stir in maple syrup and vanilla, if using. Set aside.

Whip the Coconut Cloud

  • In a chilled mixing bowl, add the solid portion of coconut cream (not the liquid).
  • Add maple syrup, vanilla, and a pinch of salt.
  • Whip using a hand frother or whisk until light and fluffy (1–2 minutes).

Assemble the Drink

  • Fill a glass with ice (optional).
  • Pour the matcha mixture into the glass.
  • Gently spoon the whipped coconut over the matcha.
  • Use the back of the spoon to layer smoothly.
  • Garnish as desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For best results, use chilled, high-fat coconut cream—brands vary in fat content.
  • If your coconut doesn’t whip, refrigerate longer or try a different brand.
  • Ceremonial-grade matcha is smoother, less bitter, and bright green—worth the upgrade.
  • Make the coconut whip ahead and store it for up to 1 day in the fridge.
  • Experiment with adaptogens like ashwagandha or reishi for added benefits.
  • Try this warm by skipping the ice and gently warming the matcha base before assembly.
