Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • Spatula
  • Cake tin (loaf or round)
  • Parchment paper
  • Wire cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder (mixed with 2 tbsp warm milk)
  • 1 cup Maltesers (crushed, plus extra for decoration)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Prep batter: Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  • Divide batter: Split mixture into two bowls. Add flour, baking powder, milk, and salt evenly. Stir cocoa mixture into one bowl for chocolate batter.
  • Add Maltesers: Fold crushed Maltesers gently into both batters.
  • Marble swirl: Spoon alternating dollops of vanilla and chocolate batter into a greased, lined cake tin. Swirl lightly with a skewer.
  • Bake: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40–45 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean.
  • Cool: Rest in tin for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
  • Decorate: Top with chocolate glaze or buttercream and extra Maltesers.

Notes

  • Decoration: Chocolate glaze with malt powder or buttercream works beautifully.
  • Variations: Try mini cupcakes, layered birthday cake, or add caramel drizzle.
  • Storage: Keep in airtight container up to 3 days; freeze slices for 1 month.
  • Pro Tip: Don’t over-swirl the batters—gentle strokes create the best marble effect.
