Equipment

  • Rolling Pin
  • Knife + cutting board
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Fork (for sealing edges)
  • Mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • ½ cup fruit jam (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, or apple butter)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp milk or cream (for icing)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out puff pastry sheets lightly on a floured surface. Cut into rectangles (about 4x5 inches).
  • Add Filling: Spoon 1–2 tbsp of jam onto half of each rectangle, leaving edges clear.
  • Seal Strudels: Fold pastry over filling to form a pocket. Press edges with fork tines to seal.
  • Egg Wash: Brush tops with beaten egg for golden color.
  • Bake: Place strudels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 18–20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Prepare Icing: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Adjust consistency as desired.
  • Cool & Ice: Let strudels cool slightly before drizzling icing over the top.
  • Serve: Enjoy warm for breakfast or as a snack.

Notes

  • Chill pastry before baking for maximum flakiness.
  • Bake on parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  • Avoid overfilling to prevent leaks.
  • Try seasonal fillings like pumpkin butter or lemon curd.
  • Freeze unbaked strudels and bake directly from frozen for quick breakfasts.
