Equipment

  • Grill or grill pan (or broiler as alternative)
  • Sharp knife and cutting board
  • Optional: grill basket or skewers
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Bowl (if marinating)

Ingredients

Base Recipe:

  • 1 whole fresh pineapple, peeled, cored, and cut into rings or spears
  • 1–2 tbsp neutral oil or melted butter (for brushing)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Optional Sweet Marinade:

  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon or chili powder

Optional Savory Marinade:

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • Fresh chopped cilantro (for garnish)

Instructions

Prep the Pineapple

  • Peel, core, and slice the pineapple into ½-inch rings or spears.
  • Optional: soak in marinade for 15–30 minutes for enhanced flavor.

Preheat the Grill

  • Heat grill or grill pan to medium-high (400–450°F / 200–230°C).
  • Brush grates with oil or use a grill basket if using small pieces.

Grill the Pineapple

  • Lightly brush pineapple with oil or reserved marinade.
  • Place slices on grill and cook 3–4 minutes per side, or until char marks appear and edges caramelize.
  • Flip once—avoid moving too early to prevent sticking.

Serve & Garnish

  • Remove from grill, let cool slightly.
  • Garnish with fresh mint, lime wedges, or toasted coconut.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Ripeness check: A ripe pineapple smells sweet at the base and has slight give when pressed.
  • Marinating: Adds deeper flavor but isn’t required for great results.
  • Spicy kick: Try chili-lime or Tajín seasoning for contrast.
  • Leftovers: Add to tacos, rice bowls, smoothies, or store in fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freezing: Freeze raw or grilled chunks in airtight bags for later use in drinks or grilled from frozen.
