Ingredients
  

For Tofu Steaks

  • 1 block firm or extra-firm tofu
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
  • ½ cup sesame seeds (white and black mix)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch or flour
  • 2 tbsp oil for frying

For Sauce (optional)

  • ¼ cup teriyaki sauce or soy-based glaze
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup

Instructions
 

  • Press the Tofu – Wrap tofu in paper towels and press with a heavy weight for 20–30 minutes to remove moisture.
  • Slice into Steaks – Cut into ½–¾ inch thick slabs.
  • Season & Coat – Brush with soy sauce, then dredge in sesame seeds mixed with cornstarch.
  • Pan-Fry – Heat oil in skillet over medium-high. Cook tofu 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
    Pro Tip: Don’t overcrowd the pan—cook in batches for crisp edges.
  • Make Sauce (Optional) – Simmer soy sauce, garlic, ginger, vinegar, and sweetener until slightly thickened.
  • Serve – Drizzle sauce over tofu steaks, garnish with scallions, and serve hot.
