Equipment

  • Large pot for boiling gnocchi
  • Skillet or sauté pan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups & spoons
  • Colander

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) potato gnocchi (store-bought or homemade)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • ½ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp truffle oil (optional, for luxury)
  • Fresh parsley or basil, for garnish
  • Optional add-ins: sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or pancetta

Instructions

  • Cook gnocchi in salted boiling water until tender (2–3 minutes, they float when ready). Reserve ½ cup cooking water.
  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  • Pour in cream, reduce heat, and simmer gently.
  • Stir in parmesan until smooth and velvety. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  • Toss gnocchi in the sauce, adding reserved cooking water if needed for silkiness.
  • Finish with truffle oil or fresh herbs.
  • Garnish with parmesan shavings and serve hot.

Notes

  • Pro Tip: Don’t overcook gnocchi—they should be tender, not mushy.
  • Brown butter before adding cream for nutty depth.
  • Always use freshly grated parmesan for the best melt and flavor.
  • Avoid freezing—gnocchi texture suffers.
  • Customize with spinach, mushrooms, or pancetta for variety.
