Equipment

  • 9x13-inch glass dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Hand mixer or whisk
  • Spatula
  • Refrigerator for chilling

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries, sliced (drain if frozen)
  • 1 box (6 oz) strawberry gelatin
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 8 oz cream cheese (or Greek yogurt for lighter option)
  • 1 cup whipped topping (or whipped cream)
  • 1 cup crushed pretzels, nuts, or cereal
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • ¼ cup sugar

Instructions

  • Prepare gelatin: Dissolve gelatin in boiling water, add cold water, and stir. Mix in strawberries. Chill until partially set.
  • Make creamy layer: Beat cream cheese with sugar until smooth. Fold in whipped topping.
  • Prepare crunchy topping: Mix crushed pretzels/nuts/cereal with melted butter and sugar. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes until crisp. Cool completely.
  • Layer salad: Spread gelatin mixture in dish. Add creamy layer on top. Sprinkle crunchy topping just before serving.
  • Chill: Refrigerate at least 4 hours to set.
  • Serve: Garnish with fresh mint or extra strawberries.

Notes

  • Fruit choice: Fresh strawberries give best flavor; frozen works if drained well.
  • Base swap: Use pudding or yogurt instead of gelatin for a creamier version.
  • Topping tip: Add pretzels or nuts right before serving to keep crunch.
  • Make-ahead: Prepare gelatin and cream layers in advance; store topping separately.
  • Variations: Try raspberries, blueberries, or peaches for a twist.
