Equipment

  • Large skillet or sauté pan
  • Cutting board & knife
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Grater (for Parmesan)
  • Measuring cups & spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, sliced into thin ribbons
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or light cream for a lighter version)
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or basil for garnish
  • Optional: cooked pasta (fettuccine or penne) for serving

Instructions

  • Sauté Aromatics: Heat butter in a skillet. Add onion and garlic, cooking until fragrant and lightly golden.
  • Cook Cabbage: Add sliced cabbage. Sauté until softened but still tender, about 8–10 minutes.
  • Build Sauce: Pour in cream, stirring gently. Simmer on low heat. Add Parmesan, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  • Combine: Toss cabbage in the sauce until evenly coated. If serving with pasta, add cooked pasta and a splash of reserved pasta water for silkier consistency.
  • Finish: Garnish with fresh herbs and extra Parmesan. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for best melt and flavor.
  • Don’t overcook cabbage—aim for tender but slightly crisp.
  • For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half or milk thickened with flour.
  • Add chicken, shrimp, or mushrooms for extra protein.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge up to 3 days; reheat gently with a splash of cream.
