Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet (or skillet)
  • Saucepan or slow cooker
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Meat thermometer

Ingredients

For Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or mix of beef and pork)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ small onion, finely diced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

For Cranberry Sauce:

  • 1 can (14 oz) whole cranberry sauce or cranberry jelly
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard (or yellow mustard)
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven: Set oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Mix meatballs: In bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, onion, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire. Mix until just combined.
  • Shape & bake: Form into 1-inch balls. Place on baking sheet and bake 20 minutes until cooked through (internal temp 165°F/74°C).
  • Prepare sauce: In saucepan, combine cranberry sauce, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, and chili flakes. Simmer 10 minutes until glossy.
  • Combine: Add baked meatballs to sauce. Simmer 5–10 minutes to infuse flavor.
  • Serve: Garnish with parsley or thyme. Serve warm as appetizer or over rice/potatoes as main dish.

Notes

  • Meat choice: Beef + pork gives best flavor; turkey or chicken for lighter option.
  • Cooking tip: Sear meatballs in skillet before simmering for extra texture.
  • Slow cooker option: Add baked meatballs and sauce, cook on low for 2–3 hours.
  • Make-ahead: Meatballs and sauce can be prepared separately and combined before serving.
  • Variations: Add orange zest for holiday flair, or chili for a spicy kick.
