  • Pastry brush

Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough Filling:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup mini chocolate chips
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: ¼ cup chopped nuts, white chocolate chips, cinnamon

For the Pastry:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade), thawed
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)
  • Optional: powdered sugar or melted chocolate for garnish

Instructions

Make the Cookie Dough:

  • Cream butter and sugars until fluffy. Add vanilla and salt. Mix in flour until combined. Fold in chocolate chips and optional mix-ins. Chill for 30 minutes.

Prepare the Pastry:

  • Roll out puff pastry into a rectangle (~10x12 inches). Spread chilled cookie dough over half the surface. Fold the other half over to sandwich the filling.

Cut & Shape:

  • Slice into 1-inch strips using a pizza cutter. Twist each strip gently and place on a lined baking sheet.

Bake:

  • Brush with egg wash. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–20 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.

Serve:

  • Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate. Pair with coffee, milk, or fruit compote.

Notes

  • For chewier twists, use homemade yeast dough instead of puff pastry.
  • Dough can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze unbaked twists for up to 2 months—bake straight from frozen.
  • Reheat in oven or air fryer uncovered to maintain crispness.
  • Try flavor variations like Nutella, peanut butter swirl, or orange zest for a twist on the twist!
