Equipment

  • Serrated knife
  • Baking sheet + parchment paper
  • Pastry brush
  • Mixing bowl (for butter topping)
  • Foil (optional, to prevent over-browning)

Ingredients

  • 1 package Hawaiian rolls (12-count)
  • 2 cups cheese (mix of cheddar, American, gouda, mozzarella)
  • 4 tbsp melted butter (salted or unsalted)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • Pinch of black pepper or chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

  • Prep rolls: Keep rolls intact. Slice horizontally with a serrated knife to create a top and bottom layer.
  • Layer cheese: Place generous slices or shreds evenly across the bottom layer.
  • Butter topping: Mix melted butter with garlic powder or herbs. Brush over the top layer.
  • Bake: Place on parchment-lined sheet. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 8–10 minutes until cheese melts. Remove foil and bake 2–3 minutes more for golden tops.
  • Serve: Pull apart into sliders and enjoy warm.
  • Tip: Bake covered first, then uncover for gooey centers and crisp tops.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: Assemble and refrigerate; bake just before serving.
  • Freezing: Freeze unbaked sliders; bake from frozen with 2–3 extra minutes.
  • Variations: Try ham & Swiss, jalapeño cheddar, or pizza-style with mozzarella and pepperoni.
  • Tip: Always shred cheese fresh for the best melt and texture.
