Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy
Ingredients
To prepare Salisbury steaks:
- 1 tablespoon fried olive oil
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 1/2 teaspoons milk (whole milk or any kind)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 2 teaspoons mayonnaise
- 1 ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Half a teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup rusk rusk
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1/2 onion finely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef 90% lean
For mushroom broth:
- Half teaspoon ground black pepper
- Half a teaspoon sea salt
- 2 teaspoons ketchup
- ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth + 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 8 ounces sliced brown mushrooms
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix all the meat pie ingredients (except the oil). Mix until well combined and shape into 4 oval or round discs that flatten the center for even thickness throughout.
- Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a non-stick frying pan, once hot, add the pancakes to the pan and cook until golden brown on both sides and cooked through. Remove the pancakes from the pan and cover to keep them warm.
- Fry the onions (you can also chop the onions into thin slices, whatever your personal preference) in the same skillet. Once the onions are soft, add the garlic and butter and mix.
- Add mushrooms and saute until they turn brown, mixing frequently. Season a little with salt and pepper.
- In a bowl, whisk all remaining broth ingredients together: 2 Tbsp flour, 1 1/2 cups broth, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 tsp Worcestershire, 1/2 tsp Dijon, 2 tsp ketchup, 1/4 tsp. 1 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Pour in mushrooms and cook until the broth thickens.
- Add the pancakes back to the pan, cover them completely with the broth and mushrooms, and cook until the pancakes are heated through.

This recipe was fabulous. Turns out just like it is pictured. Easy to make and has so much flavor. I served mine with mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini spears.

This Salisbury steak recipe is amazing!! I didn’t change a thing and it was perfect! Husband took the leftovers to work. The dijon mustard takes it to the next level. I love the fact that there’s no canned or dry soup mix in the recipe. I was able to use unsalted beef stock and didn’t have to add any extra salt.
