Ingredients
-
12 oz (340g) pasta (penne, rotini, or fusilli work well)
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
1 lb (450g) ground beef
-
5–6 garlic cloves, minced
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
1 tsp Italian seasoning
-
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
1/2 cup (120ml) beef broth
-
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
-
1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream or half-and-half
-
1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
-
Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
-
Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
-
Brown the beef:
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed. -
Sauté aromatics:
Add minced garlic and chopped onion to the skillet with the beef. Cook for 2–3 minutes until fragrant and the onion is softened. -
Season and simmer:
Stir in Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Add beef broth and diced tomatoes (with juices). Simmer for 5–7 minutes. -
Make it creamy:
Lower the heat and stir in the cream and Parmesan cheese. Let it simmer gently for another 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. -
Combine with pasta:
Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and stir to coat. Cook for another 1–2 minutes until everything is well mixed and heated through. -
Garnish and serve:
Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley and extra Parmesan if desired.
Tips:
-
Add spinach or mushrooms for extra veggies.
-
Swap ground beef with ground turkey or sausage for a twist.
-
Make it spicy with extra red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
