Cheesy Taco Sticks – The Ultimate Party Snack
Equipment
- Skillet for browning meat
- Baking sheet or pizza stone
- Parchment paper
- Pastry brush for butter/garlic topping
- Sharp knife or pizza cutter
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef, turkey, or chicken
- 1 tbsp taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 sheet refrigerated pizza dough or crescent roll dough
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 1–2 tsp melted butter
- ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
- Optional add-ins: diced jalapeños, onions, black beans, corn, olives
- Dips: salsa, guacamole, sour cream, or ranch
Instructions
- Cook the meat: Brown ground meat in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat, then stir in taco seasoning and a splash of water. Cook until coated and slightly saucy. Let cool slightly.
- Prepare the dough: Roll out pizza or crescent dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut into rectangles or strips.
- Assemble sticks: Spoon meat onto each dough piece, sprinkle with cheese, and add optional extras. Fold dough over filling and pinch/crimp edges tightly.
- Bake: Place seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush tops with melted butter and garlic powder. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown.
- Serve: Let cool slightly, then serve with your favorite dips.
Notes
- Make-ahead: Assemble and refrigerate for 24 hours or freeze unbaked for up to 2 months. Bake straight from frozen, adding 3–5 extra minutes.
- Cheese combos: Mix mozzarella and cheddar for gooeyness plus sharp flavor.
- Vegetarian option: Substitute meat with seasoned beans or plant-based crumbles.
- Avoid soggy dough: Allow meat to cool slightly before stuffing.
- Reheat tip: Oven or air fryer preferred for crispness; avoid microwaving.
