Blackened Shrimp Recipe

Blackened Shrimp Recipe

Blackened shrimp is a flavorful dish made by coating shrimp in a mix of spices and then cooking them at high heat until charred and aromatic. This dish is perfect for tacos, salads, or served on its own with a dipping sauce.

Ingredients:

For the Blackened Spice Blend:

  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For the Shrimp:

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Make the Spice Blend:
    • In a small bowl, combine all the spices to make the blackened spice blend. Mix well.
  2. Prepare the Shrimp:
    • Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps the spices adhere better and creates a better sear.
  3. Coat the Shrimp:
    • In a large bowl, toss the shrimp with the olive oil or melted butter until well coated. Then, sprinkle the blackened spice blend over the shrimp and toss until evenly coated.
  4. Heat the Pan:
    • Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy frying pan over medium-high heat. Allow it to get very hot before adding the shrimp.
  5. Cook the Shrimp:
    • Once the skillet is hot, add the seasoned shrimp in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the pan; you may need to cook in batches.
    • Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes on one side until they develop a charred, blackened crust. Flip the shrimp and cook for another 1-2 minutes until they are opaque and cooked through.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove the shrimp from the skillet and serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.

Enjoy!

This blackened shrimp recipe is quick, easy, and packed with flavor. It’s perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion! Serve it over rice, in tacos, or atop a fresh salad for a delicious meal.
