Tres Leches Cake Recipe
Tres Leches Cake is a delightful Latin American dessert that’s soaked in three types of milk, resulting in a moist, sweet, and creamy cake. It’s perfect for celebrations or a sweet treat any day of the week!
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 5 large eggs, separated
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup whole milk
For the Tres Leches Mixture:
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
For the Topping:
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Fresh fruit (like strawberries or cherries), for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Cake:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until thick and pale. Stir in the vanilla extract and whole milk.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the batter until no white streaks remain.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely.
- Make the Tres Leches Mixture:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream.
- Soak the Cake:
- Once the cake is cool, poke holes all over the surface using a fork or skewer. Slowly pour the tres leches mixture over the cake, allowing it to soak in. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Prepare the Topping:
- In a large bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the whipped cream over the top of the soaked cake.
- Serve:
- Garnish with fresh fruit if desired. Slice and serve chilled.
Tips:
- For Extra Flavor: Consider adding a splash of rum or flavored extract (like almond) to the tres leches mixture.
- Storage: Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Enjoy the creamy, sweet indulgence of Tres Leches Cake!
