Sourdough Discard Crackers Recipe

Sourdough discard crackers are a type of cracker made from the sourdough starter that you might normally discard when feeding your sourdough starter. Instead of throwing it away, you use it to make these crispy, flavorful crackers.

Here’s a basic idea of how you can make them:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sourdough starter discard (unfed starter)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup melted butter or olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: herbs, spices, cheese, or seeds for flavor

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix the sourdough starter discard with the flour, melted butter or oil, and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Roll the dough out on a floured surface until it’s very thin (about 1/8 inch thick).
  4. Cut the dough into desired shapes (squares, rectangles, etc.) and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crackers are golden brown and crisp.
  6. Allow to cool completely before serving.

Feel free to experiment with different seasonings or add-ins to customize the flavor of your crackers!
