Skillet Frachos Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag (about 10-12 oz) tortilla chips
  • 1 pound ground beef, turkey, or chicken
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheese blend)
  • 1 cup black beans (canned, drained and rinsed)
  • 1 cup corn (canned or frozen)
  • 1 jalapeño, sliced (optional for heat)

Toppings:

  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Sliced black olives (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the Meat:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground meat. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
    • Stir in the taco seasoning and follow the package instructions (usually adding water). Simmer until well combined, about 5 minutes.
  3. Assemble the Frachos:
    • In the same skillet, layer half of the tortilla chips on the bottom. Top with half of the cooked meat, half of the black beans, half of the corn, and half of the cheese.
    • Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients, finishing with the last layer of cheese and jalapeño slices on top.
  4. Bake:
    • Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Add Toppings:
    • Remove the skillet from the oven. Top the frachos with diced tomatoes, green onions, sour cream, guacamole, cilantro, and black olives if using.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve immediately while hot, with extra tortilla chips on the side for dipping.
