Ingredients:

  • For the Cake:
    • 1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar
    • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
    • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
  • For the Frosting:
    • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
    • 2/3 cup (55g) unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 3 cups (375g) powdered sugar
    • 1/3 cup (80ml) whole milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans or one 9×13-inch pan.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the Wet Ingredients:
    • Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed until well combined.
  4. Incorporate the Boiling Water:
    • Stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Mix until smooth and well blended.
  5. Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
    • Bake for 30-35 minutes for the round pans or 35-40 minutes for the 9×13-inch pan, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
