Great Pork Rub Recipe

Great Pork Rub Recipe

This Pork Rub is a simple, flavorful blend of spices that works wonderfully on pork chops, ribs, tenderloin, or even pulled pork. It combines sweet, savory, and slightly smoky notes for a delicious, balanced flavor that enhances the natural taste of pork.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 2 tablespoons paprika (preferably smoked for extra flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon salt (kosher or sea salt)
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper (freshly ground)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust for spice level)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or oregano (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions:

1. Mix the Ingredients:

  • In a small bowl, combine all of the ingredients (brown sugar, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, thyme or oregano, and cayenne pepper if using).
  • Stir the ingredients together until they are evenly mixed.

2. Apply the Rub:

  • Pat your pork with a paper towel to dry it off before applying the rub. This will help the rub stick better.
  • Rub the seasoning mix generously over the entire surface of the pork, pressing it into the meat. You can do this just before cooking or let it sit for a few hours (or overnight) in the fridge for even more flavor.

3. Cook the Pork:

  • Cook your pork as desired: grill, roast, or pan-sear. For ribs, this rub is perfect for slow cooking or grilling.
  • The rub works best when the pork is cooked to the appropriate internal temperature (145°F for chops and tenderloin, 190-205°F for pulled pork).

Tips:

  • Storage: You can store leftover rub in an airtight container for up to 6 months, making it perfect for future meals.
  • Adjust to Taste: Feel free to adjust the amount of cayenne pepper or chili powder if you want more heat or a milder flavor.
  • Make it Sweet or Smoky: To enhance sweetness, add a little extra brown sugar. To boost smokiness, use more smoked paprika.
  • Use it on Other Meats: This rub isn’t limited to pork; it also works great on chicken, beef, or even vegetables.

This Pork Rub is a versatile and easy way to infuse your pork with flavor. The sweet, smoky, and savory blend of spices will elevate any pork dish! 🍖🌶️
