Ingredients:

  • 8 oz pasta (spaghetti, fettuccine, or your choice)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup pasta cooking water
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Pasta:
    • In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta.
  2. Make the Garlic Butter Sauce:
    • In the same pot or a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
    • Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using), and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, or until the garlic is fragrant and lightly golden.
  3. Combine Pasta and Sauce:
    • Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the garlic butter.
    • Pour in the reserved pasta cooking water, and toss everything together to combine.
  4. Add Parmesan:
    • Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy. If the pasta seems dry, add a little more pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Season:
    • Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper as needed.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve immediately, garnished with fresh chopped parsley and extra Parmesan cheese, if desired.
