Easy Tuna Casserole Recipe

Tuna Casserole is a classic dish made with canned tuna, noodles (often egg noodles), a creamy sauce (typically made with ingredients like cream of mushroom soup or a homemade white sauce), and often topped with breadcrumbs or crushed potato chips. It’s usually baked until bubbly and served hot. Variations can include adding peas, cheese, or even mushrooms for extra flavor. It’s a comforting and relatively simple dish to prepare, making it a popular choice for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz (about 225g) egg noodles (or any pasta of your choice)
  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of celery)
  • 1 cup frozen peas (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 cup diced onions or celery for added flavor

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked noodles, drained tuna, cream of mushroom soup, frozen peas (if using), shredded cheese, milk, and optional onions/celery. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with melted butter until well combined. Sprinkle this breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the casserole.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
