Easy Pie Crust
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold, cut into small pieces)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional, for sweet pies)
- 3-4 tablespoons ice water
Instructions:
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt (and sugar if using).
- Cut in Butter: Add the cold butter pieces to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add Water: Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of ice water over the mixture and gently mix with a fork. Add more water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough starts to come together.
- Form Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and press it into a disk. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before using.
- Roll Out: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to fit your pie dish. Transfer it to the dish and trim the edges. You can then fill it with your desired pie filling.
