Crab Mac and Cheese

Crab Mac and Cheese is a delicious variation of traditional macaroni and cheese where lump crab meat is added to the cheesy pasta mixture. It combines the creamy texture of a cheese sauce with the sweet and savory flavors of crab meat, creating a decadent and flavorful dish. Typically, it includes ingredients such as elbow macaroni or other pasta, lump crab meat, a variety of cheeses like cheddar and mozzarella, milk, butter, and seasonings like mustard powder, salt, and pepper. It’s often baked until bubbly and golden on top, making it a comforting and indulgent meal.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni (or any pasta of your choice)

  • 1 cup lump crab meat, picked over for shells

  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 2 cups milk

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional)

  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Pasta:

    • Cook the macaroni according to package instructions in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Cheese Sauce:

    • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and mustard powder to make a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the mixture turns slightly golden.

    • Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

    • Reduce heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  3. Combine Pasta and Crab:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

    • In a large bowl, combine the cooked pasta, crab meat, and cheese sauce. Mix gently until the pasta and crab are evenly coated with the sauce.

  4. Bake:

    • Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over the top (if using).

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.

  5. Serve:

    • Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Enjoy your creamy and flavorful Crab Mac and Cheese!
