Buffalo Chicken Wings

Buffalo chicken wings are a popular American dish consisting of deep-fried chicken wings coated in a tangy and spicy sauce made primarily from hot sauce and butter. Named after Buffalo, New York, where they were invented, these wings are often served as an appetizer or party food.

Classic Buffalo Chicken Wings Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds chicken wings (split into drumettes and flats)

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1/2 cup hot sauce (like Frank’s RedHot)

  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar

  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional: garlic powder, cayenne pepper for extra heat

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Wings: Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. Season them with a little salt and pepper.

  2. Fry Wings: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry the wings in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pot, for about 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove the wings and drain them on paper towels.

  3. Make Buffalo Sauce: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, add the hot sauce, white vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and any optional seasonings like garlic powder or cayenne pepper. Stir to combine and heat until warm.

  4. Coat Wings: Place the fried wings in a large mixing bowl. Pour the buffalo sauce over the wings and toss until they are well coated.

  5. Serve: Serve the buffalo wings immediately with celery sticks and blue cheese or ranch dressing for dipping.

Tips:

  • Baking Option: For a healthier option, you can bake the wings. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a wire rack and bake for 45-50 minutes, turning halfway through, until crispy.

  • Grilling Option: You can also grill the wings. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and cook the wings for about 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are cooked through and crispy.

  • Sauce Variations: You can adjust the heat level by varying the amount of hot sauce or adding more butter for a milder flavor. Experiment with different hot sauces or add honey for a sweet and spicy variation.

Buffalo chicken wings are a crowd-pleaser, perfect for game days, parties, or any casual gathering.
