Hot Chocolate Recipe

Nothing warms you up on a cold day quite like a rich and creamy cup of hot chocolate. This classic beverage is perfect for cozying up by the fire or enjoying after a day of winter activities.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk (whole, 2%, or your preferred milk alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: Whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, or a sprinkle of cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Heat the Milk:
    • In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it’s warm but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent it from scorching.
  2. Mix the Cocoa:
    • In a separate small bowl, mix the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt together. Add a few tablespoons of the warm milk to the dry ingredients and stir until you form a smooth paste. This will help prevent lumps in your hot chocolate.
  3. Combine:
    • Pour the cocoa paste back into the saucepan with the warm milk. Stir continuously until fully combined and heated through.
  4. Add Vanilla:
    • Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Serve:
    • Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with your favorite toppings like whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings.

Tips:

  • For Extra Richness: Use half-and-half or add a tablespoon of chocolate syrup.
  • Flavor Variations: Experiment with flavors like peppermint extract, cinnamon, or even a dash of chili powder for a spicy kick!
  • Make It Vegan: Substitute dairy milk with almond, soy, oat, or coconut milk and use a plant-based whipped topping.

Enjoy your cozy cup of homemade hot chocolate!
