Chocolate Truffles Recipe

Indulge in the rich and decadent world of homemade chocolate truffles! These bite-sized delights are perfect for gifting or treating yourself. With just a few ingredients, you can create a variety of flavors to satisfy any chocolate lover.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz (225g) high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher), finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or shredded coconut for rolling (optional)

Optional Flavor Add-Ins:

  • 1-2 tablespoons liqueur (e.g., Grand Marnier, rum, or bourbon)
  • Zest of 1 orange or lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon espresso powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Ganache:
    • Place the chopped dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for about 2-3 minutes to soften.
  2. Mix Until Smooth:
    • After a few minutes, add the vanilla extract and any optional flavor add-ins you desire. Use a spatula or whisk to gently stir the mixture until it is completely smooth and glossy.
  3. Chill the Ganache:
    • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 2 hours, or until the ganache is firm enough to scoop.
  4. Form the Truffles:
    • Once the ganache is chilled, use a melon baller or small cookie scoop to portion out the ganache. Roll the portions between your hands to form smooth balls.
  5. Coat the Truffles:
    • Roll the truffles in cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or shredded coconut to coat them as desired. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Chill Again:
    • Once coated, refrigerate the truffles for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  7. Serve and Store:
    • Serve the truffles at room temperature. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Tips:

  • Flavor Variations: Experiment with different flavors by using flavored extracts, spices, or fillings (like fruit preserves or peanut butter) in the center.
  • Presentation: For a more elegant touch, drizzle melted chocolate over the truffles or dust them with edible gold or silver powder.

Enjoy your rich, creamy chocolate truffles!
