Shortbread Cookies Recipe
Shortbread cookies are a classic treat known for their buttery flavor and crumbly texture. Perfect for any occasion, they are simple to make and require just a few ingredients!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream the Butter and Sugar:
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add Vanilla:
- Mix in the vanilla extract, if using.
- Combine Dry Ingredients:
- Gradually add the flour and salt to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. The dough will be soft and crumbly.
- Shape the Dough:
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times until it comes together. You can either roll it out to about ¼-inch thickness and cut out shapes or form it into a log, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for about 30 minutes before slicing.
- Cut and Arrange:
- If rolling out, use cookie cutters to cut shapes. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.
- Bake the Cookies:
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may still appear pale.
- Cool:
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust with Powdered Sugar (optional):
- Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar if desired.
- Serve:
- Enjoy your delicious shortbread cookies with tea or coffee!
Tips:
- Storage: Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- Variations: For added flavor, consider mixing in chocolate chips, nuts, or citrus zest into the dough before baking.
Enjoy your buttery, crumbly shortbread cookies!
