Homemade Toaster Strudel
Making your own Homemade Toaster Strudel is a fun and delicious way to enjoy a classic breakfast pastry. With flaky puff pastry and a sweet fruit filling, topped with a simple icing, these strudels are a delightful homemade treat that’s easy to customize with your favorite flavors.
Ingredients:
- 1 package frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup fruit jam or preserves (strawberry, raspberry, or any favorite)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into rectangles (about 3×4 inches) to form the bases and tops for the strudels. You should get about 8-10 rectangles from two sheets.
- Add the Filling:
- Place a spoonful of fruit jam or preserves in the center of half the pastry rectangles. Spread it out, leaving about a 1/4-inch border around the edges.
- Seal the Strudels:
- Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg (this helps seal the strudels). Place the remaining puff pastry rectangles on top of the jam-covered ones. Press the edges together gently and crimp with a fork to seal them tightly.
- Bake:
- Transfer the strudels to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with more egg wash. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Make the Icing:
- While the strudels are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed.
- Ice the Strudels:
- Once the strudels are done, allow them to cool slightly. Drizzle the icing over the top of each strudel.
- Serve:
- Enjoy your homemade toaster strudels warm for the best flavor!
Tips:
- Fillings: You can use a variety of fillings like Nutella, cinnamon sugar, or cream cheese for a different twist.
- Freeze for Later: After assembling the strudels but before baking, freeze them on a tray, then transfer to a freezer bag. Bake straight from the freezer when you’re ready to enjoy!
These Homemade Toaster Strudels are flaky, sweet, and so much better than store-bought versions!
