Bacon, Onion & Herb Stuffing Recipe

Bacon, Onion & Herb Stuffing is a flavorful variation of traditional stuffing, made with crispy bacon, sautéed onions, and a blend of aromatic herbs. This stuffing is often served as a side dish during holiday meals like Thanksgiving or Christmas. The bacon adds a savory, smoky depth, while the onions provide sweetness and the herbs (such as sage, thyme, and rosemary) bring a fragrant, earthy note.

Bacon, Onion & Herb Stuffing Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups of cubed bread (preferably day-old, such as a baguette or sourdough)
  • 1 ½ cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 cup chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set it aside, leaving some of the rendered bacon fat in the pan.
  2. Sauté the Onions and Garlic: Add the butter to the same skillet with the bacon fat, and once melted, add the chopped onions. Sauté until the onions become soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Prepare the Stuffing: In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread, cooked bacon, sautéed onion and garlic mixture, and the chopped herbs (sage, thyme, rosemary). Toss everything together until well mixed.
  4. Moisten the Stuffing: Pour the chicken or vegetable broth over the bread mixture, stirring gently to combine. The bread should absorb the broth, but it should not be soggy—add more broth if needed.
  5. Bake the Stuffing: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the stuffing mixture into a greased baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 20-25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve: Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve warm. Enjoy your savory, aromatic bacon, onion, and herb stuffing as a perfect accompaniment to your favorite meals!
