Creamy Chicken Marsala Recipe
Chicken Marsala is a classic Italian-American dish featuring tender chicken breasts in a rich, creamy Marsala wine sauce. This version adds a luxurious touch of cream for a richer texture.
Ingredients:
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 8 oz cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 3/4 cup Marsala wine
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Chicken:
- Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them to an even thickness (about 1/2 inch).
- Season both sides of the chicken with salt and pepper.
- Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess.
2. Cook the Chicken:
- Heat olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the chicken breasts and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
3. Sauté the Mushrooms and Garlic:
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for 4-5 minutes until softened and browned.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
4. Make the Marsala Sauce:
- Pour the Marsala wine into the skillet to deglaze, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Let the wine simmer for 2-3 minutes to reduce slightly.
- Add the chicken broth and continue simmering for another 2 minutes.
5. Add the Cream:
- Stir in the heavy cream and let the sauce simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
6. Combine and Serve:
- Return the chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning some sauce over the top.
- Simmer the chicken in the sauce for another 3-4 minutes to ensure it’s fully warmed and coated.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.
Tips:
- Serving Suggestions: Creamy Chicken Marsala pairs wonderfully with mashed potatoes, pasta, or rice. You can also serve it alongside roasted vegetables or a simple green salad.
- Substitute for Marsala Wine: If you can’t find Marsala, you can substitute with a mix of dry sherry and sweet white wine in a 1:1 ratio.
