Easy Homemade Palmiers are delightful French pastries made from puff pastry, rolled with sugar to create crispy, caramelized treats. They are simple to make and perfect for serving with coffee or as a sweet snack. Here’s how to prepare them!
Easy Homemade Palmiers Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (plus more for sprinkling)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- Flour for dusting
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth it out slightly. It should be about 10×10 inches in size.
- Add Sugar:
- Sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly over the entire surface of the puff pastry. If using cinnamon, mix it with the sugar before sprinkling.
- Roll the Pastry:
- Starting from one edge, roll the pastry tightly toward the center until you reach the middle. Then, roll the other side towards the center, creating a log shape. You should have a double roll meeting in the middle.
- Chill:
- Wrap the rolled pastry in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes. This will make it easier to slice.
- Slice and Bake:
- After chilling, remove the pastry from the refrigerator and unwrap it. Slice the roll into 1/4-inch thick pieces.
- Place the slices cut-side down on the prepared baking sheet, giving them space to expand as they bake.
- Sprinkle More Sugar:
- Sprinkle a little extra sugar on top of each palmier before baking.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up.
- Cool and Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. They will become crisp as they cool.
Enjoy!
Palmiers are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a few days. Their flaky, buttery texture and sweet caramelized flavor make them a delightful treat any time of day!
